FRITZ!Box 6840 LTE – Service

Error message " or no connectivity"

On a Windows computer, an exclamation point is displayed next to the icon for the LAN or wireless network (WiFi) connection to the FRITZ!Box in the Windows taskbar (SysTray) and the notification "... limited or no connectivity" is displayed. You cannot open the FRITZ!Box user interface ( or access the Internet over the FRITZ!Box with this computer.

Important:Some of the settings described here are only displayed if the advanced view is enabled in the user interface. The configuration procedure and notes on functions given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS.

Simply proceed as described below. After each measure, check whether the issue persists.

1 Activating the "DHCP Client" service in Windows

Windows 10 / 8

  1. Press the keyboard shortcut "Windows key" + "X" and select "Control Panel" from the context menu.
  2. Select "Category" from the drop-down list "View by:" (top right) in the "Control Panel" menu.
  3. Click "System and Security" and then "Administrative Tools".
  4. Double-click on the entry "Services".
  5. Double-click on the entry "DHCP Client" displayed in the "Name" column.
  6. Select "Automatic" as the startup type.
  7. Click "Start" (if available) and then "OK".
  8. Restart your computer.

Windows 7

  1. In Windows, click "Start" and then "Control Panel".
  2. Select "Category" from the drop-down list "View by:" (top right) in the "Control Panel" menu.
  3. Click "System and Security", and then "Administrative Tools" and "Services".
  4. Double-click on the entry "DHCP Client" displayed in the "Name" column.
  5. Select "Automatic" as the startup type.
  6. Click "Start" and then "Apply".
  7. Restart your computer.

2 Configuring the FRITZ!Box


  • Use a network cable to connect the computer to the "LAN 2" port on the FRITZ!Box.
    • Only if the FRITZ!Box is connected to the computer via wireless LAN:
      • Clear the wireless connection between the computer and the FRITZ!Box.

Enabling the DHCP server

  1. Call up the address in a web browser.
  2. Click "Home Network" and then "Home Network Overview".
  3. Click on the "Network Settings" tab.
  4. Click the "IPv4 Addresses" button.
  5. Enable the DHCP server and define the range from which the FRITZ!Box assigns IP addresses.

    Note:The FRITZ!Box has the IP address (subnet mask and assigns IP addresses from xxx.20 to xxx.200 in the factory settings.

  6. Click "OK" to save the settings.

3 Configuring the computer's firewall

A firewall on your computer is preventing the computer from obtaining its IP settings from the DHCP server:

  • Configure the firewall so that it allows connections from the computer to the FRITZ!Box. The manufacturer of the firewall can provide you with information on how to configure it, for example consult the manual.

4 Checking the LAN connection to the FRITZ!Box

If you are experiencing connectivity problems with LAN network connections, this may be caused by errors in the cabling, energy-saving functions, or intermediary devices such as network switches, powerline adapters, or LAN/wireless LAN converters. Therefore, check the LAN connection between the computer and the FRITZ!Box:

5 Reconfiguring the wireless connection

If you are using WEP encryption, you can establish a wireless connection to the FRITZ!Box even if you enter an invalid network key. However, no communication can occur with the FRITZ!Box.

The following step is only necessary if the computer and the FRITZ!Box are connected by means of a WEP-encrypted wireless connection:

ATTENTION!WEP encryption is not secure! Therefore you should use the secure WPA encryption if your wireless devices support it.
