FRITZ!Box 6840 LTE – Service

Type and number of USB devices that can be connected to the FRITZ!Box

You can connect various USB devices such as printers or memory sticks to the USB 2.0 port on the FRITZ!Box. The devices are then available in the FRITZ!Box home network.

1 Supported USB device classes

The FRITZ!Box supports USB devices belonging to the following device classes:

  • USB printers
  • USB storage devices

Note:The FRITZ!Box supports USB storage devices with a maximum of four partitions formatted with the file system NTFS, FAT/FAT32 or ext2. Each partition may be up to 4 terabytes in size.

  • USB hub
  • When using the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection software:
Scanners and other USB devices that do not require isochronous transfer.

Note:The USB remote connection software is available for Windows 10 / 8 / 7 (64-bit and 32-bit). Isochronous USB devices such as webcams require the instant and continuous transmission of data ("real-time") and cannot be used with the FRITZ!Box.

2 Total number of USB devices

If you are using a USB hub, you can connect up to four USB devices (excluding the USB hub) to the FRITZ!Box at the same time. However, you may only connect one USB printer. If you use the FRITZ!Box remote connection software, you can connect up to three USB devices (excluding the USB hub) to the FRITZ!Box at the same time.

The FRITZ!Box treats multifunction devices as several separate USB devices. For example, a printer with an integrated memory card reader is detected as a USB printer and a USB storage device.

For instance, you can use the following USB devices with the FRITZ!Box:

  • four USB storage devices
  • three USB storage devices and one USB printer
  • one USB storage device, one USB printer, and a USB scanner

Important:The FRITZ!Box can only supply one USB device with power. If you would like to use more than one USB device without its own power supply, use a USB hub with its own power supply (active USB hub) to connect the device to the FRITZ!Box.

3 Supported USB standards

You can use USB devices that comply with the following USB standards with the FRITZ!Box:

  • USB 3.0 (if the device does not require more than 500 mA as allowed by USB 2.0)

Note:USB 3.0 devices function according to USB 2.0 when connected to the FRITZ!Box. A connection according to USB 3.0 could only be established if the device, cable and port support the USB 3.0 standard.

  • USB 2.0
  • USB 1.1
