Transferring telephone calls

Telephone calls can either be transferred to an external telephone number or to another telephone that is also connected to the FRITZ!Box.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • Transferring calls from an IP telephone such as FRITZ!App Fon to another telephone is not supported.

Note:The configuration procedure and notes on functions given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for your FRITZ!Box.

1 Preparations

The following steps are only necessary if the telephone or the PBX is connected to the "FON S0" port:

Enabling the "automatic on-hook transfer" function

  • Enable "automatic on-hook transfer" on all ISDN telephones connected to your FRITZ!Box (telephone calls are transferred automatically when you hang up).

    Note:You can often find instructions on how to configure it in the device's manual under the heading "Explicit Call Transfer" (ECT), or consult the manufacturer directly.

Assigning internal numbers to telephones connected to an ISDN PBX

If you have connected an ISDN PBX to your FRITZ!Box, you must configure all of the telephones connected to this PBX in the FRITZ!Box. During the configuration procedure, the FRITZ!Box automatically assigns internal numbers to the telephones:

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephony Devices" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Configure each telephone connected to the ISDN PBX as an ISDN telephone. To do so, click the "Configure New Device" button for each device and follow the instructions.
  4. During the configuration procedure you will be shown which telephone numbers to assign to the telephone. In the case of analog telephones, do not assign the telephone numbers to the telephones themselves. Instead, assign them to the extension of the ISDN PBX that the telephone is connected to.

2 Transferring telephone calls

  1. While conducting a telephone call, press the R key on your telephone.

    Note:If you are using a FRITZ!Fon model that does not have an R key, then the R key is not displayed until you conduct a call (soft key). Press the key directly under the corresponding icon for the R key.

  2. Dial the external number or ** followed by the internal number, depending on where the call should be transferred to.

    To transfer the call to the extension "FON 1", dial **1.

    Note:You can find the internal numbers of the telephony devices under "Telephone Book > Internal Numbers" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.

  3. Now you have two options: You can either directly transfer the call, or you can confer with the internal partner:
    • Transferring calls directly:
      • Dial *4 if you are using a cordless telephone. With other types of telephones, simply hang up or dial R4.
    • Conferring with an internal partner:
      1. Wait for the internal partner to accept the call.
      2. After conferring, you can transfer the call as described above or dial R1 to return to the initial call.
